As expected, the Mega Auction for the 2025 (Indian Premier League) IPL was just as exciting as the actual tournament. There have been notable purchases and even intense bid wars for specific players. We also saw a new player break the most expensive title, and many would agree it’s well-deserved.
While we’re still months away from the 2024 IPL, the auction already gave us a taste of how likely certain teams will perform this year. Some teams seem to have finally worked and addressed some of their opportunities, and they’re already a favourite to win as early as now.
So, if you can’t help but wonder which IPL teams stacked up great this year, or you’re gearing up for your bets on platforms like 10CRIC, let’s go over what went on during the Mega Auction, the teams’ complete squad lists, and a little about which teams might be dominating the upcoming league.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction
During the current IPL Mega Auction 2025, another record has been broken since Lucknow Super Giants bought Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore. This beat how much Kolkata Knight Riders paid for Mitchell Starc in 2024 (₹24.75 crore).
Rajasthan Royals’ acquisition of Vaibhav Suryavanshi was also significant as he’s only 13 years old, and the team paid ₹1.10 crore to get him on board. He’s undoubtedly one of the players to watch out for, even based on his performance in the U19 Test match against Australia.
Pant’s exceptional performance in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup played a crucial role in India’s victory, which has also significantly increased his market value.
Teams like the Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings engaged in several bid wars, showcasing their aggressive strategies to build competitive squads.
Overall, the auction was a success for all teams as a good mix of experienced and young talents has been picked up. The 2025 edition of the IPL will be exciting.

Early Predictions and Potential Playoff Contenders
The Mega Auction is always a good sneak peek of what could happen in the actual tournament itself, and based on the results, fans are already eager to know which teams will dominate the whole competition.
Mumbai Indians look strong with their core of Rohit, Bumrah, and SKY, plus the return of Hardik Pandya. Then, with Gujarat Titans adding firepower with Jos Buttler, they have a solid batting lineup, so other teams must watch out for them, too.
KKR also boasts a dangerous batting order with the likes of Rinku Singh and Quinton de Kock. CSK, despite an ageing squad, can never be counted out with Dhoni at the helm.
When it comes to dark horses, we can say that SRH could be one of them, especially now that they’ve strengthened their batting with Ishan Kishan. It will also be interesting to see if RCB will finally snag a title this year. We might still see them heavily relying on players like Kohli, but we can’t deny they’ve stacked up a solid team for the upcoming tournament.
